These Blue Sky speakers are suppose to be great and they are really cheap. I think you need a good 5.1 reverb (Waves 360) but I am working with an accomplished sound designer who uses all stock digi plug-ins. Mark

FWIW, I have the Blue Sky System One and love it. Having the bass management controller included saves some more $$$$ too.

I have the M & K 2310p set-up (5) with their dual 12" sub and the LFE4 bass controller. I love them. Wouldn't switch. When guest engineers work in my room they all comment about how silky they are. No fatigue, translate extremely well. My only bitch..... it's hard to work on a lessor monitor now. Ha Ha I use pretty much standard Ptools plugs with my system 6000 as an insert. Hope any of this helps, jai

Well the key to answering your question is to ask what kind of post work are you going to be doing?

If you are going to be editing spot FX etc, as Skeezer says, stick with the Audiovision. If doesn't have plugins, but has EQ, time stretch, speed change, pitch change, reverse sound BUILT IN- not some third party thing which needs updated everytime PT gets updated! We have had our 9600 v 4.10 for just under a year now, used daily, and has crashed ONCE in the year! The only limiting thing might be the sixteen tracks. Cheers, Davy

RE: post production plugins

Hi Noiz, I do check out protools every now and then and go to demos. I still reckon for hacking audio for pix Audiovision is very fast and VERY stable. 16 tracks is limiting, but luckily for our broadcast work we don't hit it too often. Clip editor, capture tool and bins feature big in our operation. I did see the recent protools demo with their version of bins. I couldn't quite understand it, although that may have been the demonstrator talking very fast! I also take your point about it not being supported. This means there will be no newfeatures etc, but other than that it doesn't really need supporting. It hasn't got many bugs needing fixed- ours has crashed once this year- thats 5 day weeks (sometimes more) long hours etc. Mac OS9 is also "dead", but I know loads of people you still use OS9 for audio (including me!), and again, it's fairly well sorted. I use OS X on my laptop for most things, it's great although still changing. The lack of plugins- well I'm sure there's loads of unusual things, but I keep seeing loads of EQs (how many do we need), loads of compressors (I use a desk for that), reverbs (again I use hardware), so I'm not so sure I'm missing too much. The one thing that would be useful is a noise reduction type thing like the waves restoration stuff. One of the big advantages of using "dead" products is the price you can get them for! Happy Christmas, Davy

RE: post production plugins

Davy, I pretty much agree. The one time I worked on Audio Vision I found features I'm still lusting for. There is no real bins in PT. In AV you could cut through multiple tracks and save that cut as a trim and put it back somwhere else... god I would love that feature. I moved to OSX because most of the stuff I use all the time had gone there, it seemed stable and I was tired of suporting two platforms. I liked OS9 a lot and had no problems with it, and it runns well on older slower machines - like 400 MHz G3's ;~) When I upgraded I changed machines also and that made a BIG diference. I wasn't so much bad mouthing AV as defending PT. AV to PT 4 was quite arguably a step down AV to PT 6.1 HD on a fast G4 or G5 isn't a step down its sortof sideways and up a bit depending on how you work. For me PT 5 and 5.1 were rocks, it took awhile for 6.1 to get there (skiped 6.0) and I still don't have some of the plugs I'm looking for. Have a great Christmas and lots of work in the new year!
