Made the switch to PT...couple quick questions

MessageAuthor

I first want to say how impressed I am with PT. The software is very intuative(sp?). Did some tests tracks last night with a buddy playing drums and myself on guitar. Before I sell my other interface/software and switch completly I wanted to make sure I can run the software The plugins(waves) seem to act different then in Sonar. Not in a bad way, just different. I especially noticed the L2 when mastering is not so "touchy" sorta speak. I usually would over compress(and have to fix it) where in PT It seemed like now I undercompress. The meters seem a bit more accurate on the L2 and PT? Anywho....just thought I would give a first impression. It's good. A couple questions. 1.) When bouncing to disk, why does it do it in real time? Is there a way to bypass this? This can hog up a huge amount of time. (sonar zips a song to 2 track in 30 seconds or so) 2.) When playing a song and the transport reaches the end it still keeps going? Is there a way to have it stop? (other then pressing the space bar. I know someone would have said that :-) 3.) When using the pencil tool to edit/erase etc., it only works when the wave/reigon is magnified alot? Why is this? 4.) When importing a mono/stereo track, PT creates a whole new track even if I have highlighted a track to import the material into? 5.) Is there a quick way to zero out the faders rather then manually moving them back to zero with the mouse? (double clicking the fader does not set back to zero) 6.) Same question as #5 except for the pan sliders. 7.) I have projects lined up all of March and April. Should I just go for it and switch!? (looking for support from you all and just tell me to do it!) I would have to buy a Digimax lt. Seems comparable to my Motu 24 i/o. In closing I would like to say that Im very happy with the 002r and PT 6.7. I look foward to being a permanant part of the Digi family

1) It does that to make it possible to use outboard equipment. There is no way to bypass it. (You are not the first one to find this annoying...). I have to admit that i don;t really mind. It forces you to listen to it again, and that's a good thing IMHO. 2) Why do you need it to stop? Don't fotget the pressing the "enter" key (the one near the letter-keys, not the one on the numeric keypad) will return you to the beginning of the song. 3) because it doesnt make sense to edit the wave when zoomed out. To edit then there are other tools. 4) if you choose "import to track" it does just that as you found out. When you choose "import file" from the region-menu (edit window, on the right side) it will import in the region-bin. Then you can drag it onm a trackl somewhere. 5) alt-leftclick 6) alt-leftclick 7) Digimax is a pretty cool box. Everyone seem to like it. I would go for it. This board is quite helpful usually, and there is a lot of knowledge available in various areas (pc-building, protools, recording, mixing etc etc....) Though you dont need to buy the digimax. the 002r has 8 analog inputs all by itself, and 4 of them have pretty good pre's on them. If that is not enough...then yes...you need something extra and the digimax sounds like an excellent choice.

Welcome Madcow! Print a hard copy of the Windows PT Shortcut 'cheat sheet' and keep it arm's distance from you... Within a few months, you'll have them all memorized... Good luck...
