VCAs/Folders - reverb/parallel compression

MessageAuthor

You can pretty much solve all your problems by using a "sub-drums" track. However, you're still going to have to route the reverb to that same "sub-drums" track. Also, your parallel compression will be compressing the reverb too, which may or may not be a good thing. However, you could create another 2nd "sub-drums" track for the final overall drums level. That way you can route your parallel compression and reverb tracks to the 2nd "sub-drums" track as well as the 1st "sub-drums" track. That should give you total control of the drums. EDIT: Heh, heh, hey Karbo, you just beat me by a second or so. :)

RE: VCAs/Folders - reverb/parallel compression

Keep in mind, I'm just explaining what I'm testing, not sure if that matches the OP... All Drum tracks controlled by VCA All Drum tracks > BUSS Reverb track outside any buss/folder. Reverb sends on individual tracks. Buss (or folder) stays at zero dB and parallel compressor goes there if needed. At least I think that works.. FYI "Room Big" and "Room Small" are room mics, the reverb FX track isn't shown.

RE: VCAs/Folders - reverb/parallel compression

I've done this: all drum channels + parallel "comp" track + "rev drum" buss into drums folder post fader sends for kick+snare+toms to parallel "comp" track post fader sends for tracks to "rev drum" "rev drum" has parent send disabled and sends post fader to the general "REV" track, which will be used for other instruments too then i have "drums" folder set to VCA master and "rev drum" to VCA slave. Now everything follows the drum folder volume, but if you prefer you can have instead a separate VCA drums track which controls the drums folder and the "rev drum" buss

I think what I've done here is similar to James' reply. It doesn't include a parallel comp track though. It does allow use of a compressor on the folder.
