Radio blanking plate

Afternoon all Does anyone know whether a plastic blanking plate (that matches the other fittings on the dash) is available for the radio section of the dash on the 240 series? This is for radios positioned high up - just to the left of the clock. I am thinking about removing a radio and obviously dont want an untidy or bodged up hole left! Ian

Didn't there used to be a cubby hole there in earlier models with the radio installed in the lower dash slot? You might find one at a breakers.

Hi Ian There are a number of left hand drive "radio delete stoarge pockets" on ebay at present eg 8071092937& 8041265331. so maybe keep an eye out for any Right hand drive versions or if a club member has one going spare they may sell it to you. stick an add in the parts wanted section. regards Brendan

Thanks guys - this would be a practical solution - I will call Braydon first and then take it from there.

RE: Radio blanking plate

Ive tried a number of breakers for either a 'radio delete storage pocket' or a plain blanking plate without success. Braydon couldnt even help with sourcing new items from Sweden which is a first! Looks like this is going to be difficult. I guess the other option is to buy a plain oblong plastic blanking plate from ebay and cut the original radio out from its surround. This is OK as its US - but its all a bit of a polava and I liked the idea of having an additional cubby hole............... I will post in the 'part wanted' section just on the off chance.

RE: Radio blanking plate

Ian / Sui, The earlier models has a cubby where the radio is positioned on the later models. I didn't like the radio in the higher position on the dash and 'retro' fitted it to the lower position. For information I replaced the unit with a Sony as I was never too impressed with the Volvo unit. If you are thinking about this Halfords supply a kit which splices into the later style of loom where the amplifier is located (not behind the radio where you would expect to see it!) I found it easiest to remove the glovebox and trim around the centre consol to fit this. Halfords also supply a 'cage' for fiting the radio into the cubby in front of the gear stick. It sounds drastic but for this to work you need to remove the plastic cubby first and then saw the back off to allow room for the unit. At this stage I also fitted a 6 stack CD player in the glovebox. As far as I am aware it was only the last couple of years of the 240's that had the radio fitted in the higher position. It shouldn't be too difficult to locate an earlier car in a scrappy. If you get stuck I'll have a dig around the garage as I might have a cubby kicking about someplace. Regards Scott
