Why I am not upgrading to 9

I've had the chance to spend a few days working with PT 9 on Mac. Other than ADC I didn't notice any advantage. More busses just seem to clutter my I/O options. But the real reason is price. I do mostly post production and I own DV toolkit. What I've noticed is that automation snapshots are only in lncluded with CPTK. This meas I need to spend about 600 (8 to 9 and DVTK to CPTK) just to get the basic fetuses I already paid 1300 for. Yes, I get surround but I don't need it. I appreciate how smart Avid marketing is but time and time again they seem too smart for their own good. Last week I worked in a studio that still uses a G5 HD just because of the pci HD cards. They spent a ton on surround monitoring and HD video gear but they refuse to pay the ridiculous premiums Avid want for the simple upgrade. Lead engeneer in that facility said the mix still sounds great on 7.4 so why upgrade if it costs so much?

I didn't know PT came with fetuses. :eek::D Har har har. Auto-correct spelling can be so funny sometimes. PT9 has been a great boon for many of us. But I suppose no upgrade path can make everyone happy. I agree with the G5 HD engineer you mentioned. If it works, why fix it?

Being able to use PT on a laptop and only needing your iLok is the main reason I upgraded. But I hear you.

Its not a perfect fit upgrade wise for everyone all the time. And the other side is if its not broke why fix it. As far as I can see thogh the main drawback with upgrading to PT9 is the DVTK2 loses its functionality.
