Help. CAD M9 Mic bit the dust.

MessageAuthor

Probably not in the same league as some suggestions but I'd really love to try one of there but they seem to be only in the US or now,

RE: Help. CAD M9 Mic bit the dust.

I got a grand to spend and i want to buy quality pieces, not ones i can grow out of. I want to be able to record vocals and be able to practice my mixing. Yet, i want to be able to give a proffesional engineer a quality vocal to work with if need be. Right now i have a DBX 266 comp, and a Behringer T1953, which im planning on getting rid. Also, a Fast Track Pro, which drivers are horrible on Win7 x64. Im leaning to the Shure KSM 32 now and since audio interfaces have built in preamps, that would be next on the list. Another problem im running into is choosing an interface. I want to be able to add a nice pre later when i have the bread but i hear you need an interface with good conversion an being able to truly bypass the preamps, preferably USB 2.0 Im may just get the Shure and the Mout Ultralite or Roland Octo-capture and be done with it..this is becoming a headache..Fast Track and Mic just went down the shitter.

RE: Help. CAD M9 Mic bit the dust.

hi, I registered just because I was reading this thread and wanted to recommend buying another M9 instead of a ksm32. the m9 is a terrific mic for making a recording that just sits perfectly in a mix, brings your lead vocal a spec forward but still sitting well, it's sort of pre-eqd for good lead vocal work imho. I've worked in a few studios that used cad m9 for certain lead vocals, and it's a cheap mic yet is still a great vocal mic. the ksm32 is a great mic but more of a utility mic imho. you have to step up to the next ksm (44?) to get a solid vocal recording mic imho. I know they're cheap, and it sucks that yours died, but I'd still buy another any day of the week if that's the mic that died on me. there is only one affordable mic that sounds like that. there are other great vocal mics that aren't expensives, but none that sound quite like the cad m9. and it happens to work well with your colored preamp also since it's a very clean mic despite being tube based. they're build quality is also top notch for a chinese built mic - but it IS a chinese built mic (designed in the USA though) and you will have issues eventually for that budget price. anyhow, this is my first post here - I'm just saying hi, I love reading this stuff and wanted to offer a suggestion. The sure ksm series are really good too, just without that m9 magical built in eq. sorry for chiming in about 2 months too late :-) cheers
